Zuma arrives in Chad

Chad -  

President Jacob Zuma arrived in N'Djamena, Chad, for a working visit on Wednesday, the Presidency said.

Zuma was invited to the Economic Community of Central African States (Eccas) summit by Chad's president Idriss Déby Itno, said presidency spokesman Mac Maharaj.

"It is expected that the Eccas Extraordinary Summit will consider  ways of restoring constitutional order in the Central African Republic...," he said.

Zuma was accompanied by International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele.

Thirteen South African soldiers were killed in a clash with rebels in the CAR last week.

"South Africa calls on the international community to remain actively engaged in the promotion of peace, security, democracy and  good governance in the CAR and the region," said Maharaj. - Sapa
