School of Computing at Clemson University offers PhD (or M.Sc–>Ph.D) position in Computer Science (combinatorial scientific computing, network analysis, optimization). The PhD Position is for summer or fall 2013. For PhD Position both M.Sc. and B.Sc. students will be considered. The student must have a solid background in theoretical computer science, discrete mathematics, algorithms, numerical methods (in particular, in algebra), C/C++. Student must have some (academic or industrial) experience in the following areas will be considered as an important advantage (not mandatory) like machine learning/data mining, HPC and parallel programming/MPI/OpenMP/Hadoop, optimization, probability, mathematical modeling, graph/network libraries (such as Boost Graph Library, LEDA, and NetworkX), scientific computing libraries.

Scholarship Description: We are looking for an outstanding candidate for a Ph.D. (or M.Sc–>Ph.D) position in the School of Computing at Clemson University, starting summer or fall 2013. The candidate will be a part of discrete algorithms team. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Ilya Safro on combinatorial scientific computing, network analysis, and large-scale optimization. The candidate will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with the research team of BMW on a variety of machine learning and data mining problems. Some projects will include collaboration with national labs.
