FMI sport trophee                        Information Minister,  Labaran Maku has stressed the need for public officers to always keep fit through physical exercises, in order to improve on their mental performances.  He made the call in Abuja recently, when the contingent of the Federal Ministry of Information to the Public Service Games tagged: 'Uyo 2012" presented him with the trophies won at the competition.

Labaran Maku further noted the necessity for every public officer to keep fit, saying there is a co-relation between physical fitness and mental performance. He appealed to the general public to develop sporting activities for all age grades and not just for the youth.

"If you do not exercise at all, you will remain dull. You will also be unable to think quickly. Your brain will not work at optimal level and your performance will be reduced.  So exercises, physical fitness is very important not just for your physical health, but for the performance of your duties. There are people who do not engage in any form of exercise at all. That is very dangerous" he reiterated.

The Minister directed that all the management staff of the ministry should actively participate in the activities of the Sports Club as a policy to keep workers fit and enhance their performance. While thanking the sportsmen and women for winning laurels for the Ministry at the tournament, he promised to encourage them to develop their talents and to grow beyond representing the ministry in sporting activities.

Maku announced the donation of N100,000 as prize for gold medallists, N75,000 for silver medallists and N50,000 for bronze medallists respectively.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Secretary General of the Information Ministry's Sports Club, Udoh Aniefiok disclosed that in spite of the challenges of inadequate sporting facilities, the team won ten  medals in different categories of sports for the ministry in the 2012 Public Service Games.

He observed that staff with sporting talents are lacking in the ministry and advised that the situation needs to be reversed in the next recruitment. Aniefiok said as part of strategies to encourage staff to keep fit, the Club has secured approval to commence aerobic exercises in the ministry.
