Resettlement Of Nigerians Affected BY ICJ Ruling The Business Of All- Sambo

Vice President Namadi Sambo on Friday, said the task of resettling and rehabilitating of Nigerians affected by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgement is the business of all the tiers of governments. Sambo said this at the inauguration of Presidential Committee for the Resettlement of Nigerians Affected by the International Court of Justice Judgement (ICJ) in the Lake Chad Area of Borno State. He said the need to reconstitute the Presidential Resettlement Committee is informed by the establishment of the Border Community Development Agency in 2010, charged with the responsibility of rehabilitating and resettling communities and persons affected by the ICJ judgement from Lake-Chad in the North through Adamawa, Taraba, Benue and Cross River states ." He recalled that "the federal government had set up the Presidential Committee in 2003 to provide temporary shelter, food and medical support to the persons relocating from the affected areas, and further identify and provide permanent resettlement sites with basic facilities that can sustain them." He added that the first phase of the exercise has been completed and handed over to the Borno State Government in 2007 though it was no officially commissioned. Inaugurating the second phase of the committee, Sambo said the terms of reference would include construction of 18.8km access road from Monguno – Kukawa road junction (kekeno village) to Ali Sheriffti village (one of the resettlement centres established by the Committee); construction of 5km road from Wulgo to Dambore village with a bridge over River Ebeji to link Dambore West with Dambore East (ceded to Nigeria by Cameroon); clearing of the water channel from Zannari to Sagir (an island in the Lake Chad). Members of the Committee include the Executive Governor of Borno State , Alhaji Kashim Shettina as the Chairman, Executive Secretary Border Community Development Agency, Senators from the affected area, Hon. Members of the affected area, DG, National Boundary Commission, Mrs S. B. Adewale from Ministry of Interior. Others are Surveyour Barde Jatau, office of the Surveyor-General, Ministry of Works; C. P. Abayomi Akeremale, office of the Inspector-General of Police; Mr. Ibrahim A. M. Kwajafa, Boarder Community Dev. Agency; Mr. Bashir Sufyan; member representing North East Geo-political zone on the Board of National Boundary Commission; Chairmen of the two affected LGAs; National Boundary Commission remains the Secretariat of the Committee.
