A Non-Governmental Organisation, Action Aid Nigeria has called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reassure Nigerians of the safety of electoral materials already released for the National Assembly elections.

The Policy Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator of the organisation, Mr.Tunde Aremu, in a statement, decried the postponement of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may have lost about N3.8billion to the postponement of the National Assembly elections, it was learnt yesterday.

The commission may have to source for funds to make up for the 'sudden' loss.

The said amount was allocated for payment of stipends to all categories of staff and ad hoc staff involved in the conduct of the ill-fated elections.

Africa's most populous nation had to abandon parliamentary polls on Saturday after voting materials failed to arrive in many parts of the country, sparking fury among voters who were promised a break with a history of flawed and violent polls.

It then pushed back the whole election timetable — including a presidential vote, now scheduled for April 16 — so as to buy time to solve the logistical problems.

The election had been postponed. In many other states, it was the end of the matter. At least for the day. But it was not so in Ekiti. It was the beginning of an inquest.

Polling booth to polling booth and residence to residence in the various localities across the entire 3 senatorial districts and 16 local governments in the state, the analysis of the disappointment wrought by the postponement and possibilities of Monday (today)  went on almost till the dusk of Saturday.
