Affordable and sustainable building materials are being made from new combinations of earth, natural fibers and granite/stone dust. These have been shown to have better mechanical properties than existing cement-based building materials. The robustness of these new building materials is being studied in ongoing research. Efforts are also being made to explore their applications in sustainable buildings in which passive solar (internal cooling or heating) can be engineered by the control of heat transport across sustainable building materials.
