KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm is offering one PhD Student position in Near-field Optics. Position is available for Swedish Students to pursue PhD research at The School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The applicant must hold an M.Sc degree in Optics, Photonics, Laser Physics, or similar before August 2013. Applicants will receive salary according to the KTH "salary ladder" for PhD students.

Eligibility:

-The applicant is expected to hold an M.Sc degree in Optics, Photonics, Laser Physics, or similar before August 2013. Experience with clean-room technology, experimental and programming skills (for numerical simulation) are an advantage.

-We are looking for a strongly motivated person, able to work independently and perform critical thinking and analysis. Good command of English (oral and written) is required to publish results in scientific journals and present them at conferences. The evaluation will be based on how well the applicant fulfills the above mentioned qualifications.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The Scholarship is open for Swedish students.

Scholarship Description: The PhD project focuses on experimental investigations of optically active materials with nano-structured features, such as metal nano-particles, core-shell quantum dots, nano-plasmonic inclusions, and so on. The interaction of light with such materials, including optical gain, losses, and polarization and coherence properties, will be studied using advanced experimental facilities.

The results of the project will lead to a deeper understanding of light-matter interaction in the near-field optics domain and contribute towards the development of novel materials for photonics applications. The project will include the development of experimental set-ups and modeling of experimental results.
