NGGT: Team inspects asphalted Kankara-Kakumi-Sheme Road, Katsina.

DSC_0116                        Members of the National Good Governance Tour have commenced inspection of projects in Katsina State following the conclusion of the Tour of Zamfara State on Monday. The Team led by the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku while enroute the State. Capital assessed the already asphalted Kankara-Kakumi-Sheme Road.

The road work which stretches from Sheme and links with Kankara-Katsina Road was constructed by Borini Prono and Co. (Nig.) Ltd.

Initially intended to be an internal road but considering the fact that motorists plying Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi use the road it was thereafter asphalted by the current state government.

The Commissioner for Works represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Katsina State, Engr. Rabiu Ibrahim said the road is 39 kilometers in length and it has two major bridges and several culverts. It has a width of 7.3 meters and 1.1 meters shoulders on either side.

He said the road cost the Katsina State Government N2,450,106,670.02k. According to him the project started in April 2006 and was completed in July 2007.

He equally disclosed that the State Government has constructed over 2,000 of such roads in the State. "These are the inter-local government roads but they have metamorphosed into Federal Roads because those plying these roads are from neighbouring states and the roads link up other highways", the Permanent Secretary Stated.

Commenting on the road, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku said it was well constructed stressing that "roads are a priority for states because you have to link up with other parts of the state to promote development, commerce and agriculture".
