Senate Starts Process of Shutting Down NEIC

The Senate has started the process of winding down the activities of the National Economic Intelligence Committee (NEIC). [caption id="attachment_62235" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba"][/caption] In his lead debate on a bill to repeal the Act Establishing the Committee, Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba observed that the Ministry of Finance and Budget office have assumed the functions of the committee. The responsibilities of the committee as stated in the NEIC Act include analysis of the annual budget and extraction of all economic measures requiring enforcement and working out details on the method of enforcing implementation of the annual budget. The decree that necessitated the Act was promulgated under the administration of Late President Sani Abacha. The proposed Bill, which scaled second reading, was referred to Senate Committee on Finance and they have two weeks to report back to the Senate.

Let's hope the committee would be better than the ones we already have right now. Corruption usually eradicate most of them once in a while.
