Federal University of Technology Owerri commended over peaceful co-existence with host community.

                        The Imo State Commissioner for Community Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro had commended the management of Federal University of Technology Owerri for carrying its host communities along in the schedule of activities.

She made the commendation during a workshop organized by the institution for the youths of the host Communities with the theme, "The role of host Communities' youths in the Universities' quest for excellence".

The Commissioner stated that the establishment of Community Government Council by Governor Okorocha was the best thing that had happened to Communities in the State.  She stressed that the Community Government Council's powers had been decentralized and Communities were given the authority to participate in the governance of their community affairs.

She challenged the management of the federal university to attract good roads to the host communities from Niger Delta Development Commission and other federal parastatals.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Cyril Asiabako said that empowerment and capacity building was the greatest resources in our society.

Professor Asiabako pointed out that when you empower or employ a person in a family you had rekindled a candle in the family.

He explained that the relative peace that existed between the University and its host communities was an indication that the management of the University was not leaving any stone unturned in empowering its host communities.

Prince Kingsley Egbokole, the coordinator of Federal University of Technology Owerri's host Communities' Relations said that the workshop was aimed at strengthening and sustaining the mutual benefit and peaceful relationship between them.

The Centre for Women Gender and Development Studies of the University presented five wheel chairs to the physically challenged persons from the host communities.
