Hull City Coach Tips Aluko To Shine In EPL

Hull City boss Steve Bruce says there is "no question" Sone Aluko has the star quality to take the Premier League by storm next season.

Aluko was an instant hit during his debut campaign with the Tigers, scoring eight goals in 22 starts to help City clinch automatic promotion as the Championship's runners-up.

Only a cruel Achilles injury, one that left him sidelined from January onwards following surgery, prevented the 23-year-old from adding to his impressive record, but his focus is already turning towards the 2013-14 season.

Aluko is confident he can play a full role in pre- season, which begins in July, and a hopeful Bruce is desperate to unleash his forgotten forward on Premier League defences.

"I really hope we see the best of him again next season," said Bruce.

"I hope he can get over his injury and stay injury- free, because he's always had a rough time of it.
.
"All I'd ask for is a fair crack of the whip because, no doubt about it, he's got all the ability to play in the Premier League.

"Not a question, he's got what it takes.
.
"He's the type of player that gets you up off your seat and, as I said a few times last season, he's one you'd pay good money to watch.

"It'll be exciting to watch him in the Premier League I'm sure, but fingers crossed he gets a good pre- season under his belt and he's ready for it."

Despite being named as an unused substitute by Bruce when aged just 16 for Birmingham's Premier League trip to Arsenal in 2005, Aluko is yet to make an appearance in the top flight.

Ample experience came during spells in the SPL with Aberdeen and Rangers and paved the way for last summer's free transfer to join the Tigers, but a fresh challenge awaits Aluko and the majority of his City team-mates in August.

The Nigerian's form through the opening five months of the season should offer plenty of encouragement.

After making his City debut with a glittering performance against Brighton on the opening day, he went on to win rave reviews as the talisman of Bruce's attack. A run of five goals in five games, including a brace against former club Birmingham, earned him the Player of the Month prize for November.

Surgery on a troublesome Achilles injury curtailed his campaign in mid-January, but a smooth recovery would have had him in contention for any play-off campaign City were eventually able to avoid.

Even in his injury-hit campaign, Aluko managed to leave his imprint on City's promotion year.
