20 Gombe indegenes depart for overseas maritime studies.

The Gombe State Government has awarded scholarships to twenty indigenes of the State for overseas maritime studies.

While addressing the students in Gombe before their departure to Lagos and subsequently to India and Scotland for a four year degree course in maritime studies, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Isa Mohammed Wade charged them to be good ambassadors of Gombe State and Nigeria and to reciprocate the gesture of Governor Hassan Dankwambo's gesture by being dedicated and committed to their studies.

The commissioner disclosed that the scholarships offered to the students were based on a counterpart funding agreement between Gombe State Government and the Nigeria Maritime administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), under the Nigeria sea farer's development programme.

He said, the State government will be paying 60 percent of the scholarships which is about thirty eight million, four hundred naira annually, while the agency will be paying the 40 percent balance of the scholarships adding that the students will be studying maritime engineering, nautical sciences and naval architecture.

While responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yerima Mohammed Tukur and Deborah Gad Aluke expressed gratitude and appreciations to Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for the opportunity given to them to further their education aboard and promised to be good ambassadors of the State and nation while there.
