Benue State Government beefs up security in Agatu.

                        The Benue State Government has beefed-up security at the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Steven Lawani disclosed this to journalists at the Government House in Makurdi recently.

Steven Lawani stated that the measure became necessary following the attack on communities by Fulani herdsmen who displaced members of many communities in the area.

The Deputy Governor said he has visited various refugee camps in Omala Local Government Area in Kogi State where the victims fled to.

According to the Deputy Governor, he has been in touch with the Government of Kogi State and appreciates the efforts over accommodation, security and healthcare.  He called on the refugees to work towards returning to their communities, following the deployment of more security men to the affected communities.

In a related development, the Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Yiman Orkwa has called on the Benue State Government to set up refugee camps to care for the people displaced by Fulani herdsmen.  Yiman Orkwa who made the call during a  press conference at the NUJ House in Makurdi, stressed that the people should be empowered to go back to their homes, early enough for the farming season.

The clergyman urged the Benue State Government to liaise with the Federal Government to make way for stoppage of the Fulani jihadists and their allies from forceful occupation of the land.

Security has to increase in that part of the country i agree. The move makes a lot of sense. Very thoughtful of them.
