Nigerians should rally round this administration –PDP chieftains

Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South-West, Chief Ishola Filani and two-time PDP governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Chief Owolabi Salis, yesterday appealed to Nigerians to rally round the present administration in its efforts at repositioning the country.

Speaking yesterday in Lagos during a Democracy Day road-show across the state, the duo said the day is worth celebrating, considering that Nigeria has experienced uninterrupted democratic governance and institutions in the last 14 years. The roadshow was organised by the Lagos State chapter of the PDP in conjunction with Owolabi Salis.

The party chieftains also urged Lagosians to consider PDP as an alternative to the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the state by voting for PDP come 2015.

Filani said: "Democracy means a situation where we are self-governing and that is what we are enjoying now. So, it is worth celebrating. It is worth celebrating that democratic governance and institutions have been in place uninterrupted in the last 14 years.

"Despite the security challenges that we face as a nation, the Goodluck Jonathan administration is on a sure but steady footing in laying the foundation for a better Nigeria.

"Let us do away with the lack of continuity, consistency and commitment of the past and rally round the present administration in its efforts at repositioning the country," he said.

In his address, Salis commended Nigerians for making the country's democracy to survive despite various crises across the country.

"I give pass mark to our democracy so far in Nigeria. The democracy day is worth celebrating, considering how we have been able to survive in the last 14 years despite the various crises in the country.

"This road-show is aimed at galvanising members of the party ahead of the 2015 elections in the state. Lagos PDP is on course. We are united and organised to offer a credible alternative to Lagosians as against the present misrule in the state," he said.
