‘Automatic tickets a welcome development’

Senator Margery Okadigbo (PDP, Anambra State) has said the proposal by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Anthony Anenih, for  automatic tickets for performing members of the party was a welcome development.

She said this in response to a question on the viability or other wise of the proposal in an interview in Abuja, on Saturday.

The legislator whose election was affirmed by the Supreme Court on Friday, said the executive and members of the National Assembly would need time to settle down to deliver on their mandate.

She said, "Obviously, there is a caveat — it is for performers.

"Even in the Senate, new senators are supposed to observe proceedings for some time before talking on the floor. It is not about how smart, how quick or knowledgeable you are."

She explained that at the executive level, new appointees were always eager to do away with the policies and programmes of their predecessors and start afresh. This, she said, did not promote continuity.

According to her, lack of continuity in governance has robbed Nigeria of many benefits especially in the area of sustainable development.

Speaking about her court victory, she said her victory was a demonstration of sound judgment anchored on the spirit of justice.
