NEMA cautions Gombe residents on flood

Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Gombe state, Mr. Jidiel Appolos, has warned residents to prepare against the predicted flooding in parts of the country.

"The people must cultivate a culture of preparedness," Appolos told reporters yesterday at an interactive session on efforts being taken to mitigate against possible flood disaster.

According to him, dumping of refuse in drainages may lead to blockage of water channels that may cause over flow that will lead to collapse of buildings. He explained that there should be proper operation and maintenance of water related to infrastructure like dams to avoid overflow of water.

According to him, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency has produced the 2013 rainfall predictions to enhance preparedness against flooding.

He called on the agricultural extension workers to plan for the provision of storage, processing and marketing facilities.
