About the Organization: Micro Investment Consultancy Services Ltd (MICS) is a social enterprise consultancy firm specializing in consultancy and advisory services to various actors dedicated to eradicating poverty in Africa. They seek to link micro, medium and small enterprises (MSMEs), credit unions, co-operative groups, rotating savings and credit associations (ROSCAs), women's groups, and MFIs with public and private funding sources and to provide technical assistance and capacity building strategies for improved efficiency and greater outreach.

About the Job: MICS is seeking Consultant(s) to deliver technical assistance services to microfinance banks and agricultural co-operatives and businesses in Nigeria in short-term assignments throughout the year. Consultant(s) need to have expertise in the Training of Trainers (ToT) (including providing best practice advice on conducting ToT sessions, designing workshops which include highly interactive methodologies, and producing a final report) for the following areas: financial literacy, risk management, value chain financing, and agricultural value chain development.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

•   Financial literacy: o   Provide financial counselling and education to individuals and groups of microentrepreneurs and SMEs that allow them to make informed and effective decisions with financial resources, and to assist with establishing a basic level of financial literacy and good financial behaviour and habits, as well as more sophisticated financial planning to assist with advanced financial needs such as investing, savings, budgeting, book keeping, loan negotiations, tax planning and other financial matters; o   Ability to create educational plans and monitor them regularly and provide progress and data reports regularly; o   Ability to design and implement Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on financial literacy.

•   Risk management: o   Plan, design, and implement an overall risk management process for MFIs/agricultural co-operatives and provide them with risk assessment and evaluation; o   Train the risk management department of MFIs on monitoring and evaluating the quality of existing risk assets created and ensure full recovery of same on a continuous basis; o   Develop and maintain a comprehensive investment and risk asset database for the MFIs and agricultural co-operatives.

•   Value chain financing and agricultural value chain development: o   Discover opportunities in these sub-sectors and harness same; o   Market the sector in clusters or individually, providing value propositions in line with the microfinance and agricultural products and services; o   Develop strategies required to attract patronage in line with the microfinance and agricultural products and services; o   Develop proposals, presentations, and other marketing tools that will enable the effectiveness in the desired responsibilities; o   Market this value-chain sector to build the credit portfolio to meet and surpass the target for same; o   Management of the credit portfolio of the value-chain customers created and ensuring continuous patronage while expanding the coast in that direction.

Qualifications:

•   Advanced degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Development Studies, Social Sciences, and Humanities;

•   At least 5 – 7 years of experience in microfinance and agricultural sectors-related area such as financial literacy, rural finance, trainings, entrepreneurship skills building. Experience in the Nigerian context is advantageous;

•   Knowledge of entrepreneurial and agricultural finance;

•   Technical skills in financial modelling, valuation, and analysis;

•   Financial and credit skills, demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity);

•   Organizational and interpersonal skills;

•   Verbal and written communication skills;

•   Strong interest in participatory development issues;

•   Good understanding of living and working in the developing world and having cross cultural sensitivities;

•   Fluency and strong writing abilities in English.
