The Federal Science and Technical College, Uyo, has engaged the services of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps [NSCDC] to guard female students' hostels in the campus. This measure arose as a result of reported rape cases in the school.

The school principal, Mrs. Theresa Nweke stated this recently in Uyo, while inaugurating a 40 unit ultra modern toilet facility donated by the Parent Teachers Association.

She said, the new security measure was imperative so that the lives of students, members of staff and property could be protected. She said that having observed the various security lapses of the former security outfit who were part time members of staff, the school had to engage the service of Civil Defence Corps to strengthen the security system of the college.
