The Commissioner for Works in Ekiti State, Mr. Sola Adebayo, has said the state government saved almost N13bn with the review of the contract sum of Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki Road from N7.5 to N11bn.

The road, which was awarded by the ousted administration of Mr. Segun Oni for N6.3bn was increased to N7.5bn but the road was not completed when he was removed from office in 2010.

Adebayo, who spoke at a press conference on the achievements of the administration since inception, said on Tuesday that the contractor had wanted the current administration to terminate  the road contract because he knew that reawarding the same would cost the state nothing less than N25bn.

But he explained that Fayemi decided to do this to ensure that the same contractor to whom the contract was awarded by Oni in 2008 remained on the job. He added that the road was a federal road and the state would be reimbursed.

He said, "It we had terminated the contract, which was what the contractor wanted, the state would have spent nothing less than N25bn to construct the road but the governor did all he could to prevent this."
