Stakeholders in Nasarawa state have expressed displeasure at the absence of former Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, Senator Solomon Ewuga and Labaran Maku, Minister of Information, at a crucial meeting held to

consider the various security challenges confronting the state.

The meeting which held at the Lafia Government House yesterday, had in attendance, former governors, ministers, ambassadors, members of the National Assembly from the state, serving and former Chief Judges of the state among others.

In a communiqué read by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Dameshi Barau Luka, at the end of the meeting, stakeholders resolved that all reports of the commissions of inquiry into previous communal crises, particularly, those on Assakio and Agyaragu should be implemented and those indicted prosecuted without further delay.

While also condemning the recent gruesome murder of scores of security operatives at Alakio village by the Eggon ethnic cult, Ombatse, the communiqué added that effort should be intensified to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the heinous act.

The communiqué noted that even though not all Eggon people are members of the Ombatse, it was established that all Ombatse members are of Eggon ethnic origin.

The communiqué called on all Eggon elites to stop the criminal activities of the outlawed cult and help fish out the culprits for prosecution.

The meeting while endorsing the decision of the state government to constitute a judicial commission of inquiry into the recent killing of security operatives and other innocent citizens at Alakio, condoled with President Jonathan and families of the deceased security personnel.

Earlier in an opening address, Governor Al-makura urged participants at the meeting to remain focused in the collective fight against the violence being perpetrated by the Ombatse sect, calling on them to remember their contributions during the agitations for the creation of the state and not to allow the effort to go in vain.

He denounced the claim by Baba Alakio, the Chief Priest of the Ombatse cult who said no invitation was sent to him to appear before police authorities.

The Governor noted that the Emir of Lafia, the Aren Eggon as well as the police had at various times sought audience with the leader of the cult group but he failed to comply.
