The Algeria Football Federation on Tuesday announced its team had pulled out of the 2014 African Nations Championship qualification after it failed to provide a competitive squad for the tournament.
.
The local Fennec Foxes were billed to face Libya this weekend in the North Zone first round, as Tunisia take on Morocco.
.
However, observers in the region suggest the Algerian officials' decision was motivated by fear of insecurity to play in Libya and to score lower points in the next Fifa ranking to possibly avoid Egypt in the 2014 World Cup seeding for the third round qualifying.
.
The Algerian FA has refuted such claims and maintains that the team pulled out because of poor standard.
.
The 2014 African Nations Championship will be held in South Africa.

Algeria has lost its taste in terms of football. They need great players to assist them once in a while, they don't have that now.
