Governor Peter Obi has said the presentation of cheques of N2.5 billion to all the secondary schools and a Sport Utility Vehicle, SUV, each to all the traditional rulers in Anambra State would enhance productivity.

Obi also warned against unnecessary politicisation of the gifts to these institutions particularly as the over 600 vehicles from INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company, Nnewi, for traditional rulers, schools and each town was also to encourage and promote made in Anambra goods.

The governor said this while reacting to a statement credited to Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, questioning the rationale behind the recent presentation of cheques of N2.5 billion to all the secondary schools and an SUV each to all the traditional rulers in the state.

In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, attributed what he called the problem with Ubah to "learning wrong things from those he interacts with2 and for allowing his aides to speak unrestrainedly on issues that could be better handled.

Obienyem expressed surprise that Ubah condemned the distribution of cheques to schools and the vehicles to traditional rulers to enhance their functions.

While also reacting to Ubah's position that Obi was forced to act because he (Ubah) had earlier given money to traditional rulers who attended his sister's wedding, Obienyem said he was not ready to amuse anybody by bringing traditional rulers into disrepute.
