Olusegun Mimiko                        Professionals in Nigeria have been called upon to come together and think of a way of proffering lasting solutions to the various challenges militating against the development of the country.

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko made the call while playing host to members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers during a courtesy call on him at the Governor's Office in Akure.

Governor Mimiko who bemoaned the current level of poverty in the country, stressed the need for the Nigerian professionals to use their acquired skills and lift this country from its current unacceptable position.

According to him, there is no reason why the Nigerian farmers should still be using the archaic method of cutlasses and hoes to practise agriculture, while other countries in the world are already using modern technologies to engage in large scale farming.

While stressing the need for the country to shift from the practice of subsistence farming, which according to him will take Nigeria to nowhere, the Governor charged Nigerian Engineers to devise simple automobile tools for our farmers to practise farming at the higher level that will take care of the ever increasing Nigerian population.

Dr. Mimiko described the Engineers as one of the pillars of any nation, saying that no nation could talk about development without the engineering components of such nation and this includes human development, he added.

The Governor restated the commitment of his administration to the development of Ondo State, assuring that more developments of the infrastructural facilities across the state would be witnessed in his second term in office.

He assured that the various on-going projects in the State, especially the dual carriageway of Akure-Oba-Ile- Airport road, would be completed, adding that the state would be able to boast of two International Gulf Courses before the year 2015.

The Governor also promised that the State would participate in the proposed national conference of the Nigerian society of Engineers which they are planning to hold in Ondo State, saying that the state is ready to welcome the conferees.

The Resident designate of the of the Nigerian Society of Engineers who led the team, Engr. Ademola Olorunfemi, had earlier appreciated the Governor for the various developmental programmes in the State.

He called for the assistance of the State Government in their plan to host the National Conference of the Society of Engineers in Ondo State come 2015 as the occasion would be an avenue for the State to showcase its infrastructural development.
