Mexico will seek redemption in their last Confederations Cup match, Saturday against Japan, after losing their two previous games in the tournament.
.
"We need to recover," Mexico coach Jose Manuel de la Torre said on Friday in Belo Horizonte.
.
"Things do not always work out, however hard you work. There are other teams that also have great quality and can beat you," he said.
.
Mexico lost 2-1 against Italy and 2-0 against Brazil in Group A of the Confed Cup. They are now seeking to make amends against Japan, who also lost their matches against football giants Brazil and Italy and will go home after the first round of play.
.
"One never likes to lose, but there are also different ways of losing," said De la Torre.
.
He noted that Mexico played badly against Italy but did much better against the tournament hosts.
.
"But at the end of the day what one wants is to win," he shrugged.
.
"Our expectation was to advance further, to go on to the next round. We have had to face major teams and that of course is not easy," he said.
.
The man nicknamed "Chepo" praised Japan as a "very orderly" team with quality players, but he noted that Mexico would rely on their own resources to get their only win in the Confed Cup.
.
"We will focus more on ourselves, on trying to play a good game, on seeking a win," he said.
.
He referred to calls for his exit from the job and argued that "it is always like that," and he looked to the future.
.
"The main goal we have this year is qualification for the World Cup," he said.
.
That goal, however, is in jeopardy since Mexico have only won one of the 11 matches they have played so far this year.
.
De la Torre said he and his team were not getting involved in the violent ongoing protests in Brazil, since they are outside the team's control.

The game was a very tensed one being that Chicharito was the one doing the scoring for Mexico. He played very well.
