DoctorsThe National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has ordered its members across the country to commence  a three day warning strike starting from the 26th of June over the "lackadaisical attitude of the federal government towards the issue of residency training  for resident doctors across the country". It would be recalled that the National President of the Union, Dr. Ismail Lawal at a press conference held  in Sagamu two weeks ago after an ordinary session of the association condemned lack of adequate funds for the health care sector in the 2013 budget by the federal government, especially the  residency training for resident doctors In a communique issued and signed by the National president of the Association, Dr. Ismail Lawal at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of the association, the union  directed all its members to commence a three  day warning strike to press home their demands "NARD has directed her members to embark on a 3 day warning strike commencing from Wednesday 26th of June 2013 to show our dissatisfaction at the unbecoming attitude of the federal government to the issue of residency training funding and the failure to yield to our demand for the supplementary budget for the training" The decision making body of resident doctors maintained that it would reconvene at the end of July to review any development on their demands following which an indefinite strike action might become necessary. The Resident Doctors equally called for  the suspension of Prof. George Akpede  as the Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, for "his act of mischief, insubordination and impersonation which amount to gross misconduct and which is not expected of a chief executive" The body maintained that Prof. Akpede has  failed to abide with various peaceful moves at resolving the lingering crisis at the institution, as evidenced by his fresh call for a legal tussle. The Association commended the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu for his intervention in the crisis and the wisdom with which he is handling the issue.

I just hope the government know what they're doing because a strike is not what we need right now. Too bad....
