Swansea City Close To Sealing Jonjo Shelvey Signing

Swansea City are hoping to finalise the signing of midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Liverpool in a deal thought to be worth £6m.

The 21-year-old, who made his England debut against San Marino in October 2012, is expected at the Liberty Stadium to finalise personal terms. Crystal Palace were also thought to be interested in Shelvey but were outbid.

Shelvey has made only 17 Liverpool league starts since moving from Charlton Athletic in 2010.

Another Swansea target is FC Twente's Belgian international winger Nacer Chadli, according to his agent Daniel Evrard, who says the Welsh side have made a bid for the 23-year-old.

Swansea signed Alejandro Pozuelo from Real Betis on Tuesday, with the midfielder becoming the third Spaniard to sign in the past week after former Betis team-mate Jose Canas on a free transfer and defender Jordi Amat from Espanyol for £2.5m.

Dutch midfielder Jonathan de Guzman has returned to the Liberty Stadium on a second season-long loan from Spanish club Villarreal.

The Swans are also in the running to sign 24-year old Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem and France striker Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon.

Clubs cannot have more than 17 non home-grown players aged over 21 in their 25-man squads and the arrival of the three Spaniards takes Swansea's current non home-grown quota to 14.
