Nordic Africa Institute Scholarships for PhD Candidates [Sweden]

Nordic Africa Institute  is offering PhD candidates at universities and research centres in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) awarding doctoral degrees in social sciences and humanities, are eligible candidates, regardless of citizenship.

The PhD research should relate to current research at the Institute. The research at the
Institute is organized into broad thematic clusters. The current clusters are Confl ict, Security and Democratic Transformation; Urban Dynamics; Rural and Agrarian Change, Property and Resources; and Globalization, Trade and Regional Integration. The application should indicate what cluster(s) the PhD candidate intends to link up with during the time as a scholarship holder and in what ways the PhD research relates to the research cluster(s).

The Aim of the PhD Scholarships:
The aim of the scholarships is to off er PhD candidates links to the existing research at the Nordic Africa Institute and to provide access to resources at the institute, such as the NAI library with its large collection of literature on contemporary Africa (books, periodicals, newspapers, and government publications).

Financial Support And Other Benefits:
The scholarships cover travelling expenses for the least expensive fare from residential address in a Nordic country to Uppsala and return. The scholarship holders are provided with a desk and computer in a shared offi ce and free accommodation in a shared student apartment. The scholarships also include a subsistence allowance of SEK 150 per day and free photocopying up to a maximum of 1,000 copies.

Please note: The PhD Scholarships do not include health care insurance or other insurances.

Application Date:
The PhD Scholarships are awarded once per year and the applications must be in by 1 October (for the spring and autumn semester of coming year).
