Nze-Akachukwu-Nwankpo                        Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) is focused on critical infrastructure projects and social safety net programmes that will directly and positively impact on the people.

Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, Secretary SURE-P made this known during the 2013 Ministerial Platform while presenting the Programme's score card for the past two years.

SURE-P, he said, manages the Federal Government's 41% share of the savings from the partial reduction of subsidies on petroleum products.

According to him, there is a lot of improvement in road construction and rehabilitation, like Abuja – Lokoja road is at 63.80% completion; Benin – Ore-Shagamu road at 98.20% completion, amongst others.

In the area of Social Safety Net programmes, SURE-P, through its community service scheme has engaged one hundred and nineteen thousand (119,000) beneficiaries spread across various communities in the country. These beneficiaries are deployed in communities where they come from and are engaged in different community services thereby maintaining social infrastructure in these communities, the secretary said.

Mr Labaran Maku, Minister of Information, in his remarks, commended SURE-P, which he said was set up to ensure that the partial withdrawal of subsidy is distributed among the states, and this can be felt in Railway rehabilitation, construction of critical infrastructural projects, employment of thousands of youths, vocational training and health care delivery
