The President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has called on Your Lordships and other operators of the body of Benchers and the Bar and well-meaning Nigerians, especially the elites and opinion leaders, to galvanize their intellectual energies in the direction of deepening an objective understanding of the workings of the judiciary in national development.

While speaking at the commissioning of the Federal High Court and other projects in Lafia, Nasarawa State, President Jonathan, represented by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, said the operators of the judicial system should "Pursue those eternal ethical codes that are the hallmark of legal and judicial practice", adding that, "This will, to a large extent, dispel every form of unsavoury perception regarding your line of duty."

He said, "I am aware you are indeed serving at a most challenging time in our national journey.   Having sworn to uphold the letters and spirit of the Constitution, you cannot afford to fail at this time when we are poised to deliver in all spheres, especially on the rule of law and natural justice."

Jonathan however, commended the Judiciary for living up to the expectations of Nigerians in dispensing justice and added that this should serve as a morale booster to earn more accolades from Nigerians instead of playing to the gallery.

Vice President Sambo noted that the Federal High Court, Nasarawa State was the third he has commissioned on behalf President Jonathan in less than two years and said; this indicates a clear manifestation of equity and justice to all rung and ladder of the society and in upholding the spirit and letter of democracy and rule of law.

He reiterated the commitment of the administration to fulfil the promises made to Nigerians during electioneering campaigns, especially in the areas of core infrastructure development, job and wealth creation, economic stability, transparency and good governance.

Jonathan said, 330/332KVA and hydro power projects have already been approved for Nasarawa State and noted the Governor's request for construction of road from Doma to the Federal Capital Territory in order to reduce the huge traffic congestion on the Nasarawa-Nyanya-FCT road.

In his remark, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, expressed excitement over the acceptance of President Jonathan to commission not only the Federal High Court but the Ta'al Model Primary School and new network of road projects in the State.

Al-Makura thanked the Federal Government for the establishment of army barracks in Doma, the establishment of Mopol Squadron Station in Lafia and the establishment of a security outfit that will help check-mate security problems in the area as well as establishment of a University in the State.

He requested the Federal Government to provide a 330/332KVA power station, to enhance electricity in Nasarawa State, construct an alternative road from Doma to the FCT, Abuja and tackle ecological problems in the State.

While speaking earlier, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice I. N. Auta, appreciated the commitment of President Jonathan for standing solidly behind the Judiciary and approving its Annual Budget without which, he said, the projects would not have left the ground.  He again appealed to the National Assembly to stop cutting the Budget of the Judiciary as this undermines the smooth running of their projects.

The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku; Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike and National Assembly members from the State also attended the event.
