Fed Cup Ouster Still Hurting Rangers

Enugu Rangers and Super Eagles striker, Alhaji Gero is an unhappy man as his side will play no active role in Wednesday's Federation Cup quarterfinal matches.

The Coal City side were eliminated from the ongoing 2013 Federation Cup in the round of 16 courtesy of a 1-2 loss to Akwa United last Wednesday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The Flying Antelopes hitman was on international duty with the Super Eagles for the final fixture qualifying match of the African Nations Championship (Chan) against the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Abidjan.

Gero said he felt deeply hurt by the Rangers' ouster from the Cup competition but that they will now redirect their focus on winning the ongoing 2012/13 Glo Premier League title.

"I felt so bad on learning that Rangers have been eliminated from the Federation Cup no thanks to the 1-2 loss to Akwa United in the round of 16 in Owerri.

"I felt really bad on second thought that my presence and those of my teammates in the Super Eagles may have changed the outcome of the match perhaps in our favour.
.
"Of course, it's humanly impossible for us to be in the two places at the same time, we're helpless but thank God we qualified Nigeria for the 2014 Chan in South Africa.

"It's painful we won't play further part in the Federation Cup this year.

"We have a big dream to win the Federation Cup to make up for last year's futile attempt, now this year's title dream has gone with the wind same way last year's dream was dashed.

"We'll turn our whole attention on the league to see what we can make out of the opportunity therein.

"That's the only opportunity left for us to grab a silverware as well as earn a quick return to the continent next year. Last year we came very close to winning the league shield we'll give it another bold chase this time around.

"The league title is still wide open at the moment, we'll try our best to pick a silverware this season," said the former Akwa United lethal finisher to supersport.com.

Enugu Rangers are seventh on the 20-team Glo Premier League log on 33 points, six points behind leaders, Kano Pillars.
