The Federal Government has concluded plans to peer review federal permanent secretaries as part of efforts to boost efficiency in the civil service.

The exercise would start tomorrow. A statement from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation indicated that the Peer Review Mechanism would be for all Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Civil Service.

Director of Communications in the office, Tope Ajakaiye said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Bukar Goni Aji made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja at the end of the monthly meeting of Permanent Secretaries.

He said the exercise is scheduled to take off at the Ecological Fund Office and the Federal Ministry of Works on Thursday, 15th August, 2013. According to him, the process would entail Permanent Secretaries evaluating one another's performance in order to maintain and enhance their quality.

"Presentations are expected to be made by each Permanent Secretary on the general overview of the activities and challenges of the Ministry followed by an interactive session with the reviewing Permanent Secretaries", Ajakaiye stated.

He added that the reviewing team will also "make a spot assessment of the Ministry premises and facilities and interact with the Directors and executive members of the Joint Staff Union to assess progress and areas of challenges in the Ministry."

He said the initiative is part of efforts to reposition the Federal Civil Service and evolve a well-motivated, professional and ethical workforce, adding that the programme is expected to create an organizational environment in which ethical conduct is promoted and demonstrated.
