•Andy Uba emerges for his faction

As expected, Senator Andy Uba yesterday won the primary conducted by the Ejike Oguebego-led State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is loyal to him, with 645 votes.

This development came as the public anxiously awaited the result of a parallel primary conducted at the Ekwueme Square by another faction of the PDP led by Prince Ken Emeakayi.

Although the outcome of the primary conducted by the Oguebego-led PDP has been known, events at the Ekwueme Square in Awka where Emeakayi and his group conducted their own election were uncertain as at press time, as voting continued into the late hours of Saturday night.

Contestants who were defeated by Andy Uba include Senator Emma Anosike who scored 110 votes, Dr Jerry Ugokwe, 86 votes and Patrick Ugboma, 89 votes, among other contestants who also got votes that were recorded for them but did not appear in person to take part in the exercise conducted at Emmause House, Awka.

The primary which was won by Uba was witnessed by his supporters who stood as delegates drawn from the 326 wards of Anambra State.

The basic feature of these contending primaries was that each of the factions worked without a common delegate list.
