For holding a parallel congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primaries in Anambra State, factional candidate, Senator Andy Uba and his younger brother, Chris, have been summoned by the leadership of the party to face a disciplinary action for their roles in the controversial primaries.

Others to face the disciplinary committee include the factional chairman of the party in the state, Ejike Oguebego as well as Chief Benji Udeozor and Mrs. Tonia Nwankwu.

In a statement issued by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Tony Okeke, the PDP said: "In view of their participation in the breach of our constitution referred to above, the following perundersons are hereby invited to appear before the National Working Committee, NWC, for a preliminary hearing at the PDP National Secretariat, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja on Wednesday, August 28, at 10a.m. prompt to show why disciplinary action should not be taken against them."

The party added that "it condemns in the strongest possible terms the organisation of a parallel primary election to elect a candidate for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State other than the one conducted by the party on August 24."

The party said: "For the avoidance of doubt, the only governorship primary election recognised by the party was the one conducted by the electoral panel perunder the leadership of Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema which was appointed by the party.

"The organisation of another primary election other than the one referred to above is a clear breach of our party's constitution and is therefore totally unacceptable and cannot be condoned."

The party also called on the Inspector General of Police to forthwith commence investigations into the illegal procurement of sensitive party materials for the illegal governorship primary election by persons who paraded themselves as working for the PDP.

Two gubernatorial candidates, Chief Tony Nwoye and Uba, emerged at the weekend at the parallel congresses. While the national headquarters of the party recognised Nwoye as the candidate and winner of the Saturday primaries with 498 votes, Uba won the other congress recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
