Role Overview:

•   The Evidence lead will be responsible for triggering social change by generating evidence to inform strategic actions that address the root causes of gender inequalities and strengthen the enabling environment for adolescent girls and women.

•   S/he will lead on influencing change in policy and practice, appraising and supporting generation of evidence to support new and empowering social norms, formal rules (laws and policies) and governance frameworks.

•   The Evidence lead will ensure that evidence generated will inform debates, working with a range of influential stakeholders to amplify findings using existing channels and platforms including; change champions; vibrant pressure/lobby groups and social networks/movements.

•   The Output lead will also work with networks and coalitions, building communities of practice, strengthening their understanding  of issues relating to the enabling environment.

Responsibilities:

Generate momentum for evidence-informed advocacy, influencing and action to strengthen the enabling environment for GEWE:

•   Facilitate the establishment and functioning of research support structures – Research Advisory Group; Policy Advisory Panel; Knowledge Management/Communications Committee. Serve as liaison between these groups and V4C.

•   Conduct scoping on selected themes for 2 cycles of studies to identify ongoing engagements with the theme.

•   Lead the selection and commissioning of suitable organisations to undertake studies on selected theme.

•   Directly supervise and monitor the work of the selected organisations in 3 above to assure quality of research and timely delivery of reports.

•   Coordinate the synthesis, peer review and publishing of reports and other innovative products (score cards, policy briefs, documentaries, etc).

•   Support the Knowledge Management/Communications Committee to develop a Communications Strategy for evidence from studies. Ensure that the strategy is implemented.

•   Support processes leading to the use of evidence by partners for advocacy, influencing and action.

•   Maintain steady communications flow and cordial relationship with critical stakeholders to get their buy in and sustain their interest in using evidence to influence their work.

•   Support all other outputs to identify and articulate operations research needs.

•   Work closely with KM Advisor, RMA and other Output leads to identify linkages and opportunities for joint action.

Online Resources and Network Hub (e-Hub) to strengthen gender expertise and application in Nigeria (cadre of 640 experts strengthened):

•   Work closely with Communications team and IT expert to create and effectively manage an 'e-Hub' for researchers, activists and practitioners to meet, learn and share about the enabling environment for GEWE within the V4C brand platform.

•   Select a suitable partner/partners to develop and manage GEWE enabling environment online courses and webinars with content provided by V4C.

•   Closely monitor site for web-statistics in addition to generating narrative reports periodically.

•   Work with suitable local partners to deliver face to face trainings to critical stakeholders on GEWE related issues.

Gender Responsive Facility (GRF) to strengthen the gender components of  DFID's programmes in Nigeria:

•   Support the database manager to set up and regularly update a database of local gender experts.

•   Provide an 'on demand' gender consultancy service to DFID and DFID partners.

•   Ensure quality assurance of assignments that fall within the V4C enabling environment remit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

•   Minimum of a Masters degree in social sciences, humanities or any related discipline.

•   Minimum of 5 years experience working in the development sector especially on gender and research.

•   Excellent proven writing skills.

•   Excellent verbal communications skills

•   Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities

•   Problem-solving skills

•   Planning/organizational skills

•   Personal motivation

•   Proven project Management capabilities
