The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Ebonyi State Command has arrested 269 persons for violating traffic rules among other offences.

Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the sector commander, Mr. Jide Fehintola, said the arrest was made through the efforts of the agency's mobile court set up to checkmate the activities of road users.

He said: "We have arrested 269 traffic offenders for various offences ranging from riding motorcycles without wearing crash helmets, driving vehicles without functional head light and spare tyres, failure to wear safety belts, overloading, broken wind shield among others.

"We appeal to owners to maintain their vehicles in a proper way so as to meet the standards of traffic rules and regulations; it is when they are well maintained that they will not constitute danger to other road users.

"We discovered that people find it difficult to obey traffic rules. We are not keeping quite as regard commercial motorcyclists wearing crash helmets as we have been making arrests".

Fahintola, said it is worrisome that after paying fines, offenders continue to commit the same offence. We are urging commercial motorcyclists to always wear crash helmets.

He however, noted that the commission would in no distant time auction over 100 impounded motorcycles, adding that their owners have refused to come and reclaim them. "
