The American University of Nigeria, Yola, is seeking a Permanent Fireman. This position is a local one open to indigenous and/or legal residents of Nigeria.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The position is responsible for protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing and preventing fires in AUN community. He will be responsible for promotion of fire safety and enforcing fire safety standards in AUN campus and residences.  He will also identify of all potential hazards, accurately assessing risk, then suggesting workable and preventive solution.

Position Requirements:

•   Must be 18 years.

•   Functional English oral and written communication skills.

•   Must be in and maintain top physical form.

•   Strength, physical stamina, agility, and medical fitness.

•   Must work in a team.

•   Must be teachable.

•   Must also be available to work flexible hours.

Other requirements, abilities for the position:

•   Ability to learn of speaking and/or signalling people to convey or exchange administrative, firefighting and emergency medical information.

•   Ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures related to the job.

•   Ability to write reports.

•   Ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and a well-modulated voice.

•   Ability to learn and understand basic to complex principles and techniques to make independent judgments in absence of supervision.

•   Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives.
