A leading member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Victor Oyofo, at the weekend cautioned the Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu, to desist from further disparaging the office of the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, through his utterances in the media.

Oyofo's reaction came on the heel of a recent report that Aliyu asked Tukur to resign his position for not being able to provide the right leadership.

In his reaction, Oyofo, who was in the Senate between 1999 and 2007, explained that Tukur who was duly elected in a party convention has been discharging his duties to the satisfaction of party leaders and the members.

Lampooning the Niger governor, Oyofo said, "Was Aliyu not elected as a governor? So if he can tell Tukur to resign, somebody should tell Aliyu too to resign.

You don't just wake up in the morning and say 'I don't like your face, so resign.' What is the charge against Bamanga Tukur? Have they ever published anything against him that they can sustain?" He asked rhetorically.

Reacting to the allegations of corrupt enrichment through the purchase of N255million armoured cars, levelled against the Aviation Minister, Ms. Stella Oduah, Oyofo said the accusation was speculative. But he advised the Minister not to treat erring airlines with kid gloves, as the country has gone through enough trauma arising from loss of lives, occasioned by plane crashes.

"First and foremost, I will not comment on speculative statements. They have to show me the armoured cars. Nigeria is a country with lots of story. The woman has performed very well in terms of mordernising our airports. But she can be more rigorous on these airlines so that they won't be flying coffins.

She should clamp down on them seriously, not in suspending the license of an airline and tomorrow you give it back. If she can do this, she has done a lot for herself and Nigeria," Oyofo counseled.
