Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama has stated that the federation is determined to get the best from its athletes in the coming season.

Nesiama said that proper conditioning of the athletes invited to the NSCDC Training Academy camp in Abuja will ensure that their season does not end prematurely as a result of injuries.

He said, "We must ensure that our athletes get it right this season which is why we are going to do strength work and many other aspects apart from speed work which will come when the season is about to begin.

"We are going to get involved in using the beaches and hills but not the tracks so it will be more of strength training, physical training so for now you're not going to find our athletes on the track at all.

"This year we must ensure that our athletes are properly conditioned because when they don't undergo this that we find them having injuries mid season and unable to meet up with the expected standards.

We have decided to adopt the best practices that are available all over the world."
