*** Sambo leads PDP 60-man campaign team

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, Comrade Tony Nwoye, and businessman, Prince Arthur Eze, yesterday stormed Awka, the state capital, promising to give each of the 326 political wards in the state the sum of N5m if they deliver the PDP candidate.

By implication, the 326 political wards in the state will receive N1.63 billion from Nwoye by ensuring his victory in the election.

While Nwoye promised N2 million for each ward, Eze added N3 million to make it N5 million. Both had earlier given the stakeholders present N20 million as transport fare for attending the Awka meeting.

Those at the meeting went wild into jubilation as most of the stakeholders present vowed to do everything possible to deliver PDP to victory.

Eze, an oil magnet, had gone down memory lane lane telling the people how he insisted that Nwoye from Anambra North should be the governor of the state to help develop the area he described as backward in Anambra.

He said: "Because of my desire to see that somebody from Anambra North becomes the next governor of the state, I took Tony to President Goodluck Jonathan and told him that just like his own people, Tony's part of Anambra State is underdeveloped and that they are likely to remain so unless they have a governor from the area.

"I told the President that people from the area are truthful, but have no money and that was why I decided to support him. When I left Jonathan, I took him to the chairman of Board of Trustees, BoT, of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih and then to the national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. I was able to convince all of them that Tony can deliver and change things for the better in Anambra State."

He said Nwoye is somebody who can do great things in Anambra State, adding that his support for Nwoye is not for personal gain.

"It is not for me as a person because I won't go to him for contract and I won't demand money from him because I have it already. I am 62 years and on the last lap of my life and what I want is for Anambra people to be happy before I die," Eze stressed.

Addressing the people, Nwoye reminded that they have been losing election in the state due to disunity.

His words: "We should all endeavour to work together to ensure victory and we must thank Prince Arthur for standing by us and bringing out his resources to lift the party. I promise to be the people's governor. You all know me and know that nobody gives me conditions and I won't give people conditions."

Meanwhile, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP has constituted a 60-man National Campaign Council for the November 16 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

The committee is headed by Vice President Namadi Sambo, while the party's National Legal Adviser, Barrister Victor Kwon, will serve as Secretary.

The campaign team will be inaugurated today, Thursday, October 31 at the National Secretariat of the party.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh said the committee is expected to work round the clock to ensure the victory of the party in the election.
