W/Cup play-off: B’Faso puts Ethiopia in tension

Ethiopia's preparations ahead of the crucial return leg World Cup play-off match against Nigeria has suffered a major blow after the Burkina Faso government cancelled the friendly scheduled for November 5.

Nigeria host Ethiopia on November 16 in Calabar. The news came just a day after both federations agreed on the friendly with a close source who sort anonymity intimating to supersport.com that the Burkina Federation's hands were tied when the government gave the order.

"The government of Burkina Faso has called off the friendly with Ethiopia without giving any reason as the federation communicated the new turn of events.

All the modalities had been met, but the devastating news was received today (yesterday) and they were expected to dispatch a letter to the Ethiopian federation," the source said.

Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) had sought to play against Cameroun but the friendly failed to materialise. Already, the match organisers are trying to get Sierra Leon on board as back up to provide Walya Antelopes with match practice ahead of the Nigeria game.

Meanwhile, the Stallions will be carrying out preparations in Belgium ahead of the return leg World Cup playoff against Algeria on November 19.
