The Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development will soon commence the third phase of its micro-credit empowerment initiative for women engaged in petty trading and small-scale businesses as part of measures to further eradicate poverty and create wealth.     Commissioner for Women affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Sonubi made this disclosure in Abeokuta while addressing members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development when they visited in continuation of their oversight functions on the 2013 budget.     Sonubi noted that in the first two phases of the empowerment initiative, the sum of N300m was disbursed to about 10,000 women across the State, adding that 90% of them had already paid back.     On the implementation of the Child Right law in the State, the Commissioner indicated that the children parliament had been inaugurated in eight local governments to expose and familiarize members with legislative duties on good governance as they affect their peers.     The Commissioner also revealed that the Ministry had since 2011 received 3,200 applications for adoption of children, while cases of child abandonment had reduced drastically.     She attributed the developments to the awareness created by the Ministry to disabuse the minds of the people on the need to adopt and the attendant effect of free education and improved health care delivery services.     In her response, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Elizabeth Anifowoshe commended the Ministry for its various social protection initiatives, urging that it should not rest on its oars towards making life more meaningful for the citizenry.
