Defence Ministry promises affordable housing facilities for retiring Armed Forces personnel

"The prevalence of the cases of lack of private accommodation which  is presently bedeviling Armed Forces personnel after retirement will soon become a thing of the past," the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismai'la told participants during the inauguration of the committee on the provision of affordable housing for retiring members of the Nigeria Armed Forces recently.

He said that the scheme would not only be accessible but affordable to the service personnel in different parts of the country as part of the welfare package towards fulfilling the dream of owning personal houses while in service.

According to the Permanent Secretary, some of the plots of land allocated to the Ministry of Defence for the scheme are located in Kuje and Gwagwalada in the FCT as well as Goningora in Kaduna State; Bauchi in Bauchi State; Ikorodu in Lagos State; Maiduguri in Borno State; Jos in Plateau State; Enugu in Enugu State and Makurdi in Benue State.

The Committee Chairman, E. G. Ofik thanked the Permanent Secretary on behalf of members for opportunity offered to them to serve and promised that the committee will not fail them. He appealed to the committee members to see the assignment as a sacrifice and call to service, adding that it is not money making venture.
