Customizable Moto X Now Available At All Major U.S. Carriers

  Motorola will make a wood-backed Moto X in Q4  

The ability to design your own Motorola smartphone is coming to all the major carriers in the United States. The Moto X—the first true flagship smartphone from the collaboration between Google and its Motorola subsidiary—is now available at Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile in addition to AT&T. With the availability comes the Moto Maker feature from Motorola where consumers can choose the color, highlights, personal message, engraving on the back and amount of storage they want for their Moto X devices.

Moto Maker was previously exclusive to AT&T. Today's announcement makes the customized Moto X through Moto Maker easier to buy from your carrier of choice. Motorola also said that the Moto X will be available for $99 on a two-year contract for a short period of time. The device normally retails at $199 on a contract.

 Many fans of the Moto X are awaiting the wood-backed smartphones that Motorola promised during the launch of the device this summer. The back paneling on the devices will be made from wood—not metal or plastic—and come in four different colors. Motorola has not yet announced the availability of the wood-backed Moto X's but the thought is that they will come before the end of the year.

Motorola also is announcing a new Moto smartphone on Wednesday this week. The Moto G event is expected to announce a cheaper version of the Moto X available globally.

Motorola also announced that the Moto X will soon be updated to the latest version of Android, version 4.4 KitKat. No specific date on when KitKat will arrive for the Moto X other than "coming soon."
