Sack looms for stay-away Heartland players

Heartland FC have issued stern warning to any player who fails to resume training by November 18, and would be assumed to have ruled himself out of the club.

Players of the team who fail to return by Monday, November 18, 2013 would be deemed to have left the club, according to a statement signed by Heartland spokesman Cajetan Nkwopara.

Heartland also dismissed rumours that they have hired a new head coach.

The Owerri based club disclosed that they have approved the programme of coach Ramson Madu and screening for new players will begin on Wednesday at the Old Stadium.

Last season, cash-strapped side finished 11th on the Nigeria Professional League table with 52 points from 38 matches.

Heartland were beset by a number of problems this past season ranging from financial difficulties to players threatening strike over non-payment of their entitlements. The players' resentment got to a head when players matched to the government house to press for their unpaid wages on the eve of their road trip to Sharks.
