Cross River State - Indian Eye Specialists to Hold Free Screening in Yala, July 12

A team of Indian Eye doctors under the TULSI Chanrai Foundation in collaboration with the Cross River State Government Free Eye Surgery Programme has concluded plans to hold a two-day Free Eye Screening exercise at Primary Health Centre, Woleche-Ebo, Yala Local Government Area from Friday, 12th July, 2013, by 8.00 a.m. daily.

According to the Programme Manager, Cross River State Free Eye Surgery Programme, Mr. Richard Silvester in a release in Calabar, the Free Eye Screening is expected to cover residents of villages in Yahe Ward as well as other neighbouring communities, including Woleche-Ebo, Ochumode, Apahi, Yahe, Okpenehre, Ipuole-Ebo, Ijiraga, Ukelle-Ihuakilom, Ibla, Eheha, Anyugbe, Engbinyi, Mfom II, among others.

The release further noted that the Eye Specialist team will comprise of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Ophthalmic Nurses, while the screening would cover eye-related cases, like Cataract, Pterygium and Glaucoma, adding that reading glasses, Eye drops and other aspects of the screening shall be provided free of charge.

Patients found to be requiring and fit for surgery, the release pointed out, shall be identified and transported without charge to Tulsi Chanrai Foundation's Calabar Eye Centre for appropriate treatment and back to the camp through a bus donated by the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke.  All operated patients it added, will be reviewed after 15th and 30th day of the operation at the Woleche Ebo Health Centre by an Ophthalmologist without cost.

The release emphasized that the team will deliver high quality eye care for the people of these communities and villages, and enjoined residents to make use of the opportunity to checkmate the increasing cases of blindness in these communities.
