The Germans may not be regarded as a force in beach soccer in the world like Russia but they hold one title - the Euro Beach Soccer League - which they won in 1998.

It is the first time that the former European beach league champions will take part in the Copa Lagos.

The Germans are expected to provide a combination of power and flair on the beach of the Eko Atlantic City this December when they come calling.

Last year, Germany's Mannschaft emerged as the Division B champions of the Power Horse Euro Beach Soccer League by defeating Greece by one goal.

But the Germans fell short in Division A of the Euro League promotion final this year.

Three consecutive losses to Russia, Portugal and Belarus left the Germans bottom of Division A Group 2 after stage two games held in Terracina, Italy in June this year.

When stage five got underway in Moscow, Russia in August, Nils Borngschulte's team lost to Russia and Spain by 1-2 and 0-2 respectively but salvaged some pride with a 6-4 triumph over Romania.

The Germans could only finish 10th in the 12-team cumulative standings of Division A of the Euro Beach League but took succour in goalkeeper Sasch Penke's display that earned him the best goalkeeper award in stage five.

The year 2013 has not been a particular superb time for Germany in beach soccer on the international front.

The Mannschaft failed to qualify for the 2013 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti after managing just a win in three games in Group A of the qualifier held in Moscow, Russia in July.

The Germans could only carve out a 2-1 win over Latvia after they had lost their opening two games to Poland and Russia by 1-2 and 1-6 respectively.

Nevertheless they would hope to finish the year on a high by becoming the first team to win the Copa Lagos outside Nigeria, who have won the previous editions.
