Job Title: Science, Math and Literacy Teacher (Training Opportunities)

Project: Bayelsa Teacher Development Project (NIGERIA)

Job description:

TMI is seeking Canadian teachers to provide teacher-training as part of a teacher development project in Bayelsa, Nigeria, for a five-week contract (25 days).  Trainers are required to deliver the following courses:

Jan 6 to Feb 7:

•   Teaching Strategies in the Secondary Science Classroom

•   Teaching Strategies in the Secondary Math Classroom

Feb 10 to March 14:

•   Primary 1-3 Literacy Teaching Strategies

•   Primary 4-6 Literacy Teaching Strategies

•   Junior Secondary Literacy Teaching Strategies

•   Senior Secondary Literacy Teaching Strategies

March 17 to April 18: Teaching Strategies in the Junior Secondary Math and Science Classrooms

April 21 to May 23: Teaching Strategies in the Primary Math and Science Classrooms

Responsibilities:

•   Deliver four classes of teacher-training course in a period of four weeks

•   Follow Trainer's Guide in the delivery of said course

•   Ensure sound instructional use of Participant Manual during training

•   Model sound teaching strategies, as described in the Trainer's Guide, and ensure said strategies are practiced by participant teachers, in a collaborative setting

•   Modify and revise course content as needed, in collaboration with other trainers, in order to best meet the needs of participants

Desired Skills and Experience:

•   Minimum 5 years teaching experience

•   Strong teaching skills in the respective subject

•   Experience in the development of higher order competencies

•   International development experience, and/or experience working with educators in development settings

•   Bachelor's degree in Education or related subject

•   Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

•   Self-motivation, initiative and productivity

•   A results oriented approach with the ability to take responsibility

•   Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet tight deadlines

•   Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of word processing (Word) and web conferencing software

•   Experience in adult learning an asset
