Eagles, Pillars Game Postponed

The much talked-about build-up game between the Super Eagles and Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Kano Pillars have been postponed.

The game, which was earlier fixed for Friday, December 27, will now hold on Monday, December 30 as the Super Eagles intensify preparations for the 2014 African Nations Championship in South Africa.

A release made available to supersport.com by the Super Eagles media department revealed that the national team will now play against a selected side, consisting of players from NPFL clubs, Sharks, Dolphins and other top players in Port Harcourt on Saturday, December 28.

However officials of Sharks say they have not been informed about such a game.

"Nobody has informed us about anything like that. Our players are on Christmas break and this match against the Super Eagles is news to me," assistant coach of Sharks, Sunny Iseokweimah said.

Vice chairman of the Rivers State Football Association, Chief Ominiokuma Kile then took the time to clarify the situation explaining that the game will be played in Kpor, Gokana and not in Port Harcourt.

"Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Gokana United have just completed their new stadium and they want the Super Eagles to officially open the edifice.

"The game on Saturday will be between Gokana United and the Super Eagles and it will be played in the new stadium in Gokana," Kile said.

Players and officials of the Super Eagles will arrive in Port Harcourt on Friday morning ahead of Saturday's game.
