Khune Axed From Bafana CHAN Squad

Kaizer Chiefs have withdrawn their six players that were named by coach Gordon Igesund in the Bafana Bafana squad to play in the 2014 Championship of African Nations.

According to Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung, the club will not be releasing their players as the tournament is not sanctioned by FIFA.

"We have expressed ourselves to Safa well in advance. Chiefs are scheduled to play in a PSL league fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on 23rd January 2014. We have to prepare for Caf Championship as well," Motaung said on the club's website. However the PSL rescheduled the Chiefs-Sundowns match to accommodate the two teams who have players selected for Bafana.

"Following a meeting of the South African Football Association International Affairs Committee, it was agreed that the Absa Premiership fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs initially scheduled for 28 January 2014 be moved to Thursday night, 23 January 2013," the PSL said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Chan tournament is taking place between 11 January and 1 February 2014 in South Africa.
