Position Description: Manage a portfolio of counterparty credit risks associated with lending, trading, and investing activities, with the primary objective of assessing and managing risk within acceptable parameters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

•   Undertake quantitative and qualitative financial analysis to develop a comprehensive understanding of counter party risks for new or increased facilities.  Conduct annual risk reviews and monitor covenants and conditions on the existing portfolio base.

•   Understand the Banks internal rating models and their risk drivers, and translate this information into a rating using the correct rating model.

•   Develop a basic understanding of lending and derivative products.

•   Make recommendations and exercise judgement, sanctioning excesses within Delegated Authority limits.

•   Coordinate and ensure that the post-approval implementation of facilities and legal documentation is in accordance with the conditions of sanction.

•   Follow up and address non-adherence to terms and conditions of sanction by counterparties.  Consider the inherent risk therein and make recommendations to regularise or mitigate such increased risk.

•   Participate in and remain abreast of market developments.  Stay attuned to industry and market risk developments and trends in relation to counterparty exposures and their impact on the underlying portfolios.

•   Daily management, escalation and control of portfolio irregularities.

•   Maintain data accuracy in Credit and Bank systems.

•   Participate in projects as delegated from time to time.

SUCCESS INDICATORS:

•   Take responsibility for the portfolio, effectively prioritising and delivering within agreed turnaround times.

•   Proactive engagement in managing key stakeholders, resulting in positive feedback from stakeholders and client satisfaction.

•   Gain an understanding of the decisions and recommendations made by Credit Managers.

•   Meet targets to conduct annual reviews, thereby limiting the number of overdue reviews within portfolio.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Tertiary qualifications preferable        

EXPERIENCE: Prior banking or financial institutions experience advantageous.

Required Competencies

KNOWLEDGE:

•   Good understanding of accounting (both management and financial accounting) to analyse financial strengths and weaknesses of clients and identify potential risks to credit proposals.

•   Gain thorough working knowledge of the risk systems for monitoring and related procedures for analysing the account behaviour of clients and identifying trends and shifts in credit risk profiles.

•   Ability to understand products and facilities that give rise to counterparty credit risk and appropriately documenting these risks.

•   Basic understanding of vanilla lending and derivative products and facilities that give rise to counterparty credit risks, including the documentation required/presented to manage that risk.

•   Understanding of Basel and broader regulatory and compliance requirements.

•   Gain awareness of other Risk types, ie. Operational, Market and Country Risk.

•   Knowledge of financial markets, global economy and appropriate regional geographies in which portfolio operates.

•   Thorough conceptual and practical knowledge of credit procedures, policies and standards.
